How to use the Revenue Opportunity dashboard - Practice Hub

See how much unused clinical capacity your practices have — and what it could be worth in revenue.

Written by Lily Hunt

The Revenue Opportunity dashboard is a pre-built dashboard in the Practice Hub that answers a simple question: how much more revenue could your practices generate with the hours you already have? It compares the hours available across your practices with the hours actually booked and worked, then converts that unused capacity into a potential revenue figure based on your current performance.

You'll find it under My Dashboards in the left-hand menu.

What's on the dashboard

The dashboard opens with two full-width analysis tiles covering a rolling 12-month period:

  • Practice Hours Utilisation Analysis — your capacity in hours

  • Potential Revenue Opportunity Analysis — what that capacity is worth in revenue

Read them together: the first tile shows where the unused hours are, the second shows what they could be worth.

Practice Hours Utilisation Analysis

This tile plots three measures month by month:

Series

What it shows

Practice Available Hours

The total variable hours your practices could offer

Appointment Book Available Hours

The hours actually open in the appointment book

Worked Hours

The hours actually worked

The gaps between the lines are your capacity story: the difference between practice hours and appointment book hours shows time not being offered to patients, and the difference between appointment book hours and worked hours shows time offered but not filled.

Potential Revenue Opportunity Analysis

This tile translates those hours into money, using your current revenue performance:

Series

What it shows

Practice Hours Opportunity

The revenue you could generate if all practice available hours were utilised at your current performance

Full Appointment Book Opportunity

The revenue you could generate if every appointment book hour were filled

Achieved Revenue

The revenue you actually generated

The distance between Achieved Revenue and the opportunity lines is your unrealised revenue for that month — the headline number to act on.

💡 Tip: When you spot a month with a large gap, use the Whitespace (Forward Cover) and Diary Utilisation tiles (via Add Tile) or the Appointment Diary report to pinpoint which practices, providers and days are driving it.

Filtering by practice

By default the dashboard shows All practices combined. To focus on one or more practices:

  1. Click the All practices dropdown in the toolbar.

  2. Search for or select the practices you want to include.

  3. Click Apply. Both tiles update to reflect your selection.

Customising the dashboard

The Revenue Opportunity dashboard works like any MPC dashboard:

  • Add Tile — open the tile library to add KPI and analysis tiles. Search by name or filter by category (Attendance, Financial, Patient Care, Treatment Coordination, Utilisation). Tiles already on the dashboard are marked Already added.

  • Hover over a tile and use the drag handle to rearrange, the expand icon to view full screen, or the menu to View Data, resize (Small, Standard, Large) or Remove the tile.

  • Save keeps your customised layout, Load opens a previously saved dashboard, New starts a fresh one, and Export downloads a copy to share outside MPC.

Commonly asked questions

Why do my available hours look too high? Non-revenue diaries (for example admin or lab diaries) can inflate available hours. You can exclude them from reporting — see How to use the Providers List.

How is the revenue opportunity calculated? It is based on your available hours and your current revenue performance — in effect, what your unused hours would be worth if they performed like the hours you already fill.

What's the practical difference between the two opportunity lines? Full Appointment Book Opportunity is the nearer-term target — filling the diary time already open. Practice Hours Opportunity is the ceiling — what's possible if all practice hours were opened up and filled.

Where do I go to fill the gaps? See Why is my Diary Whitespace Percentage High? and How to use the Appointment Diary (BETA) for finding and rebooking unfilled time.

My data looks out of date — what should I do? See What to do if my data is not up to date.
