Adding KPI Targets in Explorer

How to add KPI targets to fully analyse your performance

Written by Courtney Forrester

Adding KPI targets isn’t just about tracking numbers—it’s about giving those numbers meaning and direction, especially in Explorer where you’re analysing performance.

Why does this matter?

  1. Turn metrics into decisions
Without a target, a metric is just a number. Setting KPI targets allows you to quickly see whether your practice is performing well or underperforming.

  2. Align your practice team
Targets create a shared goal across your team and provide clear direction on what success looks like.

  3. Drive action
Targets prompt important questions such as “Why are we below target?” and “What should we prioritise to achieve our target?”, helping teams focus on improvement.

Setting up KPI Targets

📝 Please note: You need admin rights to create KPI targets

  1. Go to Settings, then scroll down to Practice Admin Manager. Click Practice Setup and select KPI Targets.

  2. The KPI Targets page will appear. Before adding any targets, set your user permissions by clicking the green button.

  3. Click + Add New KPI Target

  4. In the window, select the KPI you want to set a target for from the KPI name dropdown.

  5. Choose the level, either Group or Practice.

  6. Enter the KPI Target Value and the Amber Value, which acts as a warning threshold.

  7. Select the Effective Date From, which determines when the target will take effect.

  8. Click Submit to save your KPI target.

Viewing Targets on the Dashboards

  • Go to the Dashboard section in Explorer

  • Click Load Dashboard

  • Choose the dashboard from Saved Dashboards or System Templates.

  • Press Load

  • Your dashboard will now appear

  • At the top of the dashboard, under the dashboard name, toggle on KPI Targets to make the targets visible like shown below

    🎯 Understanding the Targets

The KPI target feature uses traffic light colour coding, allowing you to quickly see how your practice is performing at a glance.

  • Green indicates that the target has been achieved or exceeded.

  • Amber indicates that the target has been missed by a small percentage and may require attention.

  • Red indicates that performance is below target and may need immediate action.
